Beach City VFD took a trip to Zavalla, TX to donate some much needed fire equipment to the Zavalla VFD.  On Monday October 23rd the Zavalla VFD suffered a devastating loss when their fire station and all of their equipment was involved in a fire.  Everything was a total loss, except for one fire truck that was parked outside.  They need a large amount of help since they only have a $6000 a year budget.  For more information about how you can help, contact Katrina Wade at (936) 897-3187 or wkcwade@imu.net, or Zavalla City Hall at 897-3311 or zavalla2002@yahoo.com.  Click here for the Lufkin Daily News

Beach City VFD has taken delivery of the new Brush 81.  This truck will replace our old brush truck that was very costly to maintain and has been out of service for some time.  The new truck is a Ford F350 that carries over 200 gallons of water and can carry 5 firefighters.  This truck is replacing two older trucks that the department owns.  This will allow us to respond better to the community and lower the costs of operating two trucks.  Click here for pictures.

Beach City VFD is now starting the long and difficult process to help lower the homeowner's insurance of everyone in our district.  Beach City currently has an ISO rating of 9.  This is the worst end of a 1-10 scale.  In order to lower the rating the fire department must spend a lot of time and money to better our operations.  For more information on how we are trying to save you money visit www.isomitigation.com

June 13, 2006
Chambers County Commissioner's Court has placed a ban on the selling or use of "skyrockets with sticks" and "missiles with fins" for this fireworks season.  This is due to the recommendation from the Texas Forestry Service to initiate the ban if any part of the county's drought index is at 570 or above.  We are at 636 in some areas.  This order does not prohibit the use of normal fireworks -- only those with sticks and fins (bottlerockets and rockets).  This order only applies to unincorporated areas of Chambers County.  If you live within a city, this order does not apply.  The city would have to enact a similar order/ordinance, and have the means to enforce.

Don't forget to set your clocks forward 1 hour for daylight savings time.  This is also a good time to replace the battery in your smoke detectors.  It is a good idea to replace your battery in your smoke detector at least once a year.  For more information on smoke detectors, visit our Fire Prevention page.

The National Weather Service for the Houston/ Galveston area has issued a warning about high fire danger for the area.      A COLD FRONT WILL MOVE THROUGH THE AREA THIS EVENING. NO RAIN IS EXPECTED WITH THE FRONT AND THEREFORE NO RELIEF TO THE DRY GROUND CONDITIONS. AS HIGH PRESSURE BUILDS INTO THE AREA ON THURSDAY...BREEZY NORTHWEST WINDS AND VERY LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY VALUES WILL DEVELOP. THIS WILL INCREASE THE FIRE DANGER.
