December 28, 2005
          Chambers County judge Sylvia issued a burn ban for all of Chambers County.  The burn ban was issued in response to very hot and dry weather with high winds.  The mid and northern part of the state have been dealing with large disastrous grass fires in the past few days.

December 17, 2005
          Santa on the Bay 2005 continued tonight.  Department members took Engine 81, Tanker 81, and Rescue 81 to the streets to tour Santa through the North end of Beach City and Cove.  We were joined by Trinity Bay Medic 81 and members from Fisher Rd. Baptist Church.  Santa handed out candy to anyone along the way.  1 truckload of can good donations were collected for local needy families.  A good time was enjoyed by all involved.

          Beach City VFD gets our new sign up and working.  The sign project has been going on for many months and is finally complete.  Feel free to drive by and check out the new sign.  We would like to thank Jerrell Vojacek and Kee West Equipment for donating their time, equipment, and effort on this great project.  Click here for photos.

          Beach City VFD provides live fire training for probationary members at the La Porte fire field.  Firefighters from LaPorte provided their time to assist in training.  All personnel learned a great deal.  The rain held off most of the day!  Thank you to the La Porte Fire Department for their assistance.

November 11-13, 2005
          Beach City VFD sends Jason Hollister, Jerrell Vojacek, and Weston Davis to the Katy Extrication school.  Jerrell attending the basic extrication class and Weston and Jason attended the advanced class.  The Katy extrication school is one of the best in the area.  Our firefighters must stay on top of the latest extrication training due to the response to vehicle accidents.

          Beach City VFD sends Tanker 81 and personnel to attend the Barbers Hill Fun Fest sponsored by the West Chambers County Chamber of Commerce.  Beach City personnel handed out magnets and fire prevention materials.  We also sold some of our world famous cookbooks.  Thank you to everyone who stopped by and gave us some much needed donations.

          Beach City VFD sends Tanker 81 to participate in the 2005 Deer Park Fire Truck Parade.  Each year Deer Park hosts a fire prevention parade that we are proud to be a part of.  This year Tanker 81 won the trophy for "Best Apparatus Year 1991-2000".  Click here for pictures.

          Beach City VFD feeds emergency responders in Winnie.  Firefighters got food from Antonio's in Baytown and drove to winnie today.  We are determined to provide neighboring departments with as much help as we can during their time of need.   Photo 1  Photo 2

          Beach City VFD cooks hotdogs to provide food to the residents of Cove and Beach City who are without electricity.  Station 81 is open to local emergency responders who are still without power.  Cots and food are also sent to Winnie VFD to assist in their efforts.  Tanker 81 is set to respond to all parts of the county for assistance as needed.

          Beach City VFD sends 2 personnel along with Mt. Belvieu FD to the Winnie area to assist in relief efforts.  Personnel staffed Winnie VFD engines and ambulances to assist their personnel.

          Beach City VFD moves personnel and apparatus back into district.  Beach City VFD is fully operational by this afternoon.  Any residents who need any assistance please contact the fire department.

          Hurricane Rita strikes east Texas area.  Beach City residents only suffer minor damage due to hurricane.

          Beach City VFD assists Chambers County Sheriffs department and emergency management in evacuating Beach City and Cove.  A mandatory evacuation has been ordered for Chambers County due to hurricane Rita.

July 24-29, 2005
          Jason Hollister attended Texas Fire Training School in College Station.  Jason took "Firefighting 3", a class to advance his knowledge in firefighting.  This training was made possible by a grant from the Texas Forest Service.  Pictures of Jason in action can be seen in our training photo section.

July 17-22, 2005
          Jim Josey and Weston Davis attend training at Texas Fire Training School in College Station.  Weston took rope rescue technician class, becoming certified to perform rope rescue.  Jim instructed at the LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) projects all week.  We received a grant from the Texas Forest Service that made this training possible.

           The City of Beach City approved our proposed budget for fiscal year 2006.  These funds are greatly appreciated and needed.  We thank the City of Beach City for enabling us to provide an excellent service to the citizens we serve.

           Chambers County commissioners issued a burn ban today for Chambers County.  This means that no outside burning is permitted in the county.  The only exception is burning used for cooking will still be permitted.  If you have any questions please contact your commissioner.  For more information of burn bans please visit the Texas Forest Service website.

           Michael Eccleston a valued member of Beach City VFD is going to be leaving the department on June 29th.  Michael will be going off to military service of our country.  He will be going to Ft. Sill in Oklahoma for basic training and then head to Ft. Bliss for another six weeks.  Our department and community will greatly miss him.  Please pray for him and all of our troops.

           Hurricane Season officially starts today.  Beach City and surrounding areas are in the path of any hurricane that would hit South East Texas.  Beach City VFD provides our Hurricane Center every year during hurricane season.  This provides residents all the necessary information in the event of a hurricane.  Please check often for breaking news updates on any tropical activity.

            Beach City VFD attends the Texas EMS Week Festival in Mt. Belvieu.  The event was hosted by Mt. Belvieu EMS.  Rescue 81 personnel competed in a vehicle extrication contest with members of Highlands VFD.  The event was an opportunity for local emergency personnel to educate the public on the role of emergency services in the area.

            Beach City VFD offers our deepest condolences to the family of U.S. Army PVT. Wesley Robert Riggs of Beach City.  Riggs was killed in Iraq on Tuesday from a roadside bomb in Tikrit.  He is the first casualty from the area in the Iraq war.

            Beach City VFD along with Fisher Rd. Baptist Church host a community blood drive.  Turnout was very low and only 23 units of blood were collected.  Great and many thanks go out to the ones who came to make a difference.  Thank You.

            Beach City VFD attend Barbers Hill FFA's AgVenture Day at Barbers Hill High School.  Engine 81 was on hand along with Mt. Belvieu Engine 1 to show the children the fire trucks.  We taught the children about fire safety and fire prevention.  The kids got to see firefighters in their gear and the operation of the fire trucks.

            Beach City VFD tours new 2 million square foot Wal-Mart distribution center.  Personnel became familiar with facility in the event that there was a fire at the facility.

             Beach City VFD applies for the Assistance to Firefighters Grant.  This is the 4th year we have tried to get a new fire truck to replace our aging one.  Hopefully we will know soon if we will be fortunate enough to get one.

             Beach City VFD hosts live fire training at the LaPorte Fire Field.  Beach City VFD, Cove VFD, and Mt. Belvieu VFD all participated in a full day of training.  Personnel got to experience firefighting, searching for victims, and firefighter rescue.

             We are sad to report the LODD of Capt. Grady Burke with the Houston Fire Department Station #46.  Capt. Burke lost his life today battling a house fire.  For more information visit the City of Houston website.

             Beach City VFD responded to a total of 149 calls.  This is a 10% increase in calls from 2003.  The breakdown was 78 In district and 71 out of district.  Beach City VFD again sets a department record for the amount of calls ran in one year.
